The Innkeepers Favorite Drive
Connecticut has some very special and beautiful country, and a
favorite drive through Old Lyme, Lyme, the hamlets of Hamburg and
Hadlyme, across the Connecticut River by ferry to Chester and to
the village of Essex is shared by many of the locals and tourists.
Left out of the Old Lyme Inn driveway. Right at
the light; right at the next light and right onto 156 (Neck Road)
North. 5 miles to Hamburg; left onto Old Hamburg Road - Bear left
onto Joshuatown Road, to the end and left onto Route 148 to the
ferry which runs from April to November.** After your crossing go
to the first light and turn left (south) onto Route 154.
Follow the signs to Essex Village.
You can return to Old Lyme via Route 9 South,
Route 95 North and East and take Exit 70, the first exit over the
bridge.
**In the event the ferry is not
running, at the end of Joshuatown Road go straight and take route
82 and follow the signs to East Haddam and cross via the bridge
and take a left on Route 154 South. This picturesque alternative
is about 1/2 hour longer
